Surviving another wave in Time Wasters is only part of the challenge. The real test is deciding how quickly you can tear through it. Enemy waves last just ten seconds, rewarding ships that can clear the screen before the next attack arrives, while Elites push you to squeeze as much damage as possible from every weapon and upgrade you have collected.

You take control of different Captains, each built around a unique primary weapon and their own collection of upgrades. Gold earned during a run can be spent immediately, allowing you to strengthen your ship, improve its support abilities, and eventually transform its main weapon into a Super Weapon. The result is a fast-moving space roguelite where every few seconds bring another chance to increase your firepower, protect your Outposts, or prepare for whatever is about to appear next.

What Makes It Different?

  • Ten-second enemy waves that reward fast and efficient clearing
  • Multiple Captains with unique primary weapons and upgrade paths
  • Primary weapons that can be transformed into Super Weapons
  • Auto-firing weapons with the option to aim them manually
  • Outposts that can be unlocked, established, and protected for additional bonuses
  • Time Cubes that let you reroll choices or gain several upgrades at once
  • Space Cubes that provide permanent progression between runs
  • Individual Loyalty Challenges for every Captain
  • An Endless Mode for continuing beyond the standard progression

How It Plays

Movement is fast, with boost upgrades helping your ship stay ahead of the swarms closing in around it. Weapons fire automatically by default, leaving you free to concentrate on positioning, collecting Gold, and avoiding incoming attacks. You can also take manual control of your weapons when you want more say over where that firepower is being directed.

Gold provides the immediate progression during each run. New upgrades can be unlocked as soon as you collect enough, allowing your ship to grow stronger without waiting for the current wave to end. Captains each approach that progression differently, with unique upgrades built around their primary weapons and support abilities.

Outposts add another responsibility beyond keeping your own ship intact. Once established, they provide useful bonuses, but they also need to be protected from the enemies filling the battlefield. That creates another decision during busy waves: chase enemies and resources across the screen, or stay close enough to prevent an important Outpost from being overwhelmed.

Game Progression

Time Cubes and Space Cubes allow progress to continue beyond the upgrades collected during a single attempt. Time Cubes can be spent in the Time Cube Shop to reroll available choices or compress time, immediately granting several upgrades rather than waiting to unlock them individually.

Space Cubes change how future runs begin. They can be used to start with Outposts already developed and Captains already upgraded, giving you a stronger foundation for the next attempt. Each Captain also has a unique Loyalty Challenge, providing another objective to work towards as you experiment with their weapons and upgrades.

Good If You Like…

If you enjoy Vampire Survivors, Rogue Genesia, Brotato, or Nova Drift, Time Wasters offers another progression-heavy roguelite where a modest collection of weapons can quickly grow into enough firepower to clear entire swarms before the next ten-second wave begins.
