Bullet heaven games aren’t exactly known for subtlety. Before long, the screen is usually overflowing with enemies, projectiles, explosions, and enough visual effects to make it difficult to remember where your character is standing. Mini Gladiators is taking that familiar chaos and giving it a rather satisfying twist.
The upcoming roguelite has just opened its first Steam playtest, giving players an early chance to step into a tiny gladiator’s sandals and carve their way through swarms of enemies. The formula is pretty much you move, your character attacks automatically, and every victory opens the door to another round of upgrades before the next wave arrives. However, it’s what happens when your attacks connect that immediately catches the eye.
Rather than watching enemies simply disappear after taking enough damage, every strike sends them flying across the arena. Foes collide with walls, crash into one another, and scatter in every direction, creating battles that feel driven as much by momentum as raw damage numbers. According to the developer, every impact is simulated using physics, with force, speed, and mass all influencing how each encounter unfolds.
The result is a game that looks surprisingly playful despite throwing hundreds of enemies at you.
Every Upgrade Changes the Mayhem
Progression follows a familiar roguelite system, but the focus appears to be less about chasing the biggest damage numbers and more about discovering increasingly entertaining combinations.
Between battles you’ll earn gold, strengthen your gladiator, and decide which encounters to tackle next. Different upgrades gradually reshape how combat plays out, changing the way enemies are launched around the arena and opening up new ways to control the ever-growing crowds standing between you and the next reward.
It gives every run a steady sense of momentum without asking you to memorise complex controls. Everything is built around movement, leaving the game to handle the attacking while you concentrate on positioning and surviving the chaos unfolding around you.
Now It’s Time for Player Feedback
This first playtest is deliberately focused on the fundamentals.
The developer is actively encouraging players to share their thoughts, with a feedback form built directly into the game to help shape future updates as development continues.
There’s still plenty we don’t know. Weapon variety, long-term progression, and the overall scale of the finished game are all things that will become clearer over time. For now, the spotlight is firmly on the physics system that gives Mini Gladiators its identity.
If you’ve been looking for a new roguelite to keep an eye on, this feels like the perfect time to jump in. Playtests only stay open for a limited time, and they’re often the best opportunity to help shape a game before it reaches its full release. If nothing else, Mini Gladiators already looks set to answer exactly how much fun you can have sending an entire arena of enemies flying.
