Something went wrong inside this digital universe, and it’s hostile. The Anima wait in the dungeons below, enigmatic and malevolent entities that overwhelm anyone who isn’t prepared, but death isn’t really the end here. A robotic rescuer always brings you back to Virelda, a safe haven and base of operations, ready to try again as a Pioneer standing against whatever’s coming.

Soulbound: Online is a pixel-art action-MMO roguelite hybrid from developer SpiderWare. Charging into fast, bullet-heaven dungeons solo or with up to two friends, chaining together ability and relic combinations, and returning to a persistent open world to farm, craft, and build a home base, you’ll fight to uncover the truth behind the Anima one reshuffled dungeon run at a time.

What Makes It Different?

  • Run instanced, roguelite dungeons that reshuffle encounters and loot every time
  • Chain together abilities and relics into over 100 unique build combinations
  • Swap gear to instantly swap class, with no fixed build locking you in
  • Team up in 3-player co-op dungeons or 5+ player raids
  • Explore a shared, persistent overworld with thousands of other players
  • Build and decorate a personal base with a full room-layout editor
  • Craft gear, cook meals, and brew potions through a deep crafting ecosystem

An MMO With Roguelite Teeth

Soulbound splits its world cleanly in two. The overworld plays like a traditional, shared MMO space, full of farming, crafting, quests, and thousands of other players going about their own business, from tending crops to fishing a quiet river to stumbling into a quest line that unlocks a skill nobody told them about. Step into a dungeon, though, and the rules change entirely.

Floors reshuffle hazards, enemy encounters, and loot on every run, and relics picked up along the way warp abilities in directions that aren’t always predictable. That contrast between a steady, persistent world and genuinely chaotic, synergy-driven combat is what sets Soulbound apart from most other MMOs on the market, blending long-term meta progression with the moment-to-moment unpredictability of a survivor-like dungeon crawl.

Build Whatever Class You Feel Like

Rather than locking a character into one fixed role, Soulbound ties class entirely to gear, so there’s no need to roll a second character just to try something different. Swapping equipment swaps the whole build on the spot, meaning tanking for a party one session and raining bullets as a ranged DPS the next is entirely possible on the same character.

With over 10 distinct abilities and more than 200 upgradeable relic trees to pull from, builds can lean into raw damage, crowd control, support, or hybrid combinations nobody planned for, like stacking a chain-lightning relic onto a mage’s core spell or layering life-steal onto a berserker’s hammer to turn an AoE swing into party-wide healing. Discovering one of those unexpected synergies is a big part of what keeps runs feeling fresh.

A Home Base Built to Grow

Every player gets their own base back in Virelda, and it functions as the real hub for meta progression outside the dungeons. Constructing and upgrading crafting stations unlocks new gear tiers, potions capable of tipping a tough dungeon run in your favor, and meals that extend stamina further than usual.

Farming, gathering, and mining all feed directly back into that crafting loop too, with cooking restoring stamina, gathering supplying crafting materials for gear and buffs, and mining unlocking the stations needed to forge the weapons that define a build. Decorating a base with furniture and trophies, then inviting friends over or building out a shared guild base, rounds out a surprisingly deep side of the game that exists entirely outside combat.

How Long Does a Run Take?

The median dungeon run time is 17:52.5, with a fastest run of 15:29.0, according to the game’s official Dungeon League metrics. Casual players spend an average of about 60 hours in-game total across overall activities, while mid-level and hardcore players often exceed 300 hours of total playtime.

Good If You Like…

If you enjoyed Boneraiser Minions, Army of Ruin, or Skelly Selest, Soulbound: Online’s mix of bullet-heaven dungeon combat and build-crafting should be well worth a look. Its persistent MMO overworld is a fairly unique addition to that formula, so it’s worth going in knowing that element of it is still being actively developed in Early Access.
