Bigosaur, a solo developer known for compact, mechanically sharp games, built Clutchtime as a basketball-themed deck builder that maps real sport concepts onto card strategy. It released on July 24, 2025.

Each team enters a run with a starting deck of five players, each represented by three skill cards. Gameplay revolves around constructing synergies between those players: defensive setups that force turnovers through double teams, or offensive configurations built around three-point shooters who can score through contact. Beyond player cards, team cards introduce situational tools — calling a Timeout, issuing a Coach Challenge, or filing a complaint with the referees at the cost of a Technical foul. Random events throughout a season offer roster decisions such as trading with other teams, upgrading cards, removing poor fits, or duplicating high-value cards.

Two structural modes shape how those decisions accumulate. Elimination tournaments run as strict roguelikes: a single loss ends the run. The Classic regular season allows losses but demands a strong enough record to qualify for and then win the playoffs before a championship is secured. The difference in stakes meaningfully changes how aggressively a player should specialize a deck versus hedging for consistency.

Clutchtime’s update arc is visible from a pre-release April 2025 patch that added faster gameplay, a team editor, and Steam Workshop support, suggesting a period of early access development before the July launch. The launch window brought a tutorial, player names displayed directly on cards, and balance changes including a nerf to the Skip Pass. August added French localization; September introduced a Daily Challenge mode with streak tracking, Portuguese translation, and Android progress sharing, and also added the ability to preview the court layout during reward selection. By October the game earned Steam Deck Verified status. The Daily Challenge streak mechanic gives returning players a concrete short-term target beyond full season runs.
