The moment a new weapon drops mid-wave, you have seconds to decide whether it completes your build or fractures it — and in HoloCure: Save the Fans!, that decision compounds across every run. Developed by KayAnimate, this free unofficial fan game draws on the Hololive vtuber roster and pits players against escalating swarms of mind-controlled fans, with the stated goal of rescuing rather than simply surviving them.

Combat follows the auto-attack template popularized by Vampire Survivors: your character attacks automatically while you focus on movement and, between waves, choosing which weapons or items to add from a randomized selection. Each Hololive talent plays differently, bringing a unique starting weapon and passive traits that reward matching your item picks to her strengths. Weapons can be combined into upgraded forms when the right items align, so a run’s direction often pivots on whether the upgrade path you want appears before the enemy density makes positioning unmanageable.

Runs take place across stages with timed wave structures, and the game tracks performance through a ranking system that pushes experienced players toward faster clears and higher scores. A separate Time Mode shifts the challenge toward endurance. Outside individual runs, players can unlock and experiment with the growing cast of characters, each acting as a distinct build constraint that reshapes which weapon combinations are worth pursuing.

HoloCure launched on August 16, 2023, and rapid hotfixes in that same month addressed stability issues from the initial release. Development continued steadily through 2024, culminating in Update 0.7 in November 2024 — the most substantial patch visible in the update history — alongside a cluster of balance passes, bug fixes, and a smaller adjustment. Into 2025, KayAnimate issued leaderboard fixes, balance changes, and a Time Mode tweak, with a developer blog appearing in late 2025 suggesting continued attention to the project.

A new player’s first hour involves picking a character, learning to position around the game’s density spikes, and discovering which weapon combinations survive long enough to matter.
