Vampire Survivors Spins Into Turn-Based Card Combat With Vampire Crawlers

In case you missed it, Poncle has done something unexpected, by taken the screaming, explosion-laden chaos of Vampire Survivors and stuffed it into a turn-based dungeon crawler. Vampire Crawlers is now live, and it’s exactly as weird as it sounds.

This isn’t just a reskinned roguelite riding on Vampire Survivors‘ coat tails. The new spin-off transplants the core design philosophy of the original into unfamiliar territory. You’re getting card-driven gameplay, roguelite progression, and what the team calls a “casual” blobber experience. Translation: accessibility is doing the heavy lifting here, not complexity.

Poncle has been refreshingly honest about their approach. Rather than chase trends, they’ve identified the actual pillars holding up Vampire Survivors‘ success: accessibility, immediacy, affordability, replayability, lightheartedness, and admittedly, flashy nonsense. Those same principles now power a completely different subgenre.

It’s a gamble. Vampire Survivors worked because it stripped action roguelikes down to their most addictive components. Slowing that down into turn-based card mechanics could either feel liberating or painfully diluted. Early impressions will tell whether this experiment justifies itself or collapses under the weight of its own ambition.

The good news? You can find out right now. Vampire Crawlers is available on Steam, and has been since April, and given Poncle’s track record with pricing, your wallet won’t hate you for it.
