Every few seconds in Soulstone Survivors, a screen full of projectiles, curses, and colossal boss attacks forces a split-second choice: commit to a skill that synergizes with your current build, or pivot toward something safer that leaves power on the table. That tension between explosive combination-building and moment-to-moment survival defines how Game Smithing Limited’s action roguelite operates.
Each run casts the player as a Void Hunter cutting through relentless enemy hordes across varied maps. Combat is fast and horde-scale, with character movement and positioning mattering as much as the more than 350 active and passive skills available to mix and match. Over a run, players assemble a build from this pool, chasing synergies that can push damage or utility well beyond what any single skill achieves alone. The weapon crafting layer adds another axis: more than 100 weapons can be forged, each capable of redirecting a build toward new interactions. Boss encounters — named Titans and, at the top of the hierarchy, the Void King himself — punctuate the horde-clearing with fights that demand both reflexes and strategic preparation. Curses and multiple game modes add variability between runs.
Progression extends beyond individual runs through a broad skill tree and a roster of unlockable characters, each presumably reshaping which build paths feel natural. The overarching fiction follows the order of the Void Hunters and their conflict with the Lords of the Void, whose Soulstones are the prize the player collects across runs.
Soulstone Survivors had a substantial early access period before Game Smithing Limited released version 1.0 in June 2025 under the title The Void King, which introduced the lore, voiced characters, and the king himself as a final target. Post-launch updates arrived quickly: The Golden Burglar in July 2025, Hammer Time in August, The Skullcrusher in September, and The Glacial Watcher in November. A December 2025 announcement teased Veil of the Soulstones as a coming expansion. 2026 continued the cadence with The Last Arsenal in March and Gift of the Veil in June, demonstrating that the studio has kept a steady update rhythm well past launch.
A new player’s first hour is spent learning one character’s starting skill set, surviving increasingly dense waves, making a handful of pivotal skill selections that either cohere into something powerful or teach — through failure — how the synergy system actually works.
