Most action roguelites hand you a fixed hero and tune the difficulty around their kit. Tiny Rogues, developed by RubyDev and released on September 23, 2022, inverts that by offering 34 unlockable character classes, each carrying its own passive abilities, and then piling an enormous equipment and trait system on top so that no two runs assemble the same character even within the same class.

A run moves through ten floors drawn from a pool of more than twenty uniquely themed dungeon levels. Each floor is a sequence of rooms that must be cleared of enemies before progress is possible, and each ends in a boss fight chosen randomly from a roster of over forty encounters, including multiple distinct final bosses. That random boss assignment means the tenth-floor threat is never guaranteed, which keeps late-run planning genuinely uncertain rather than a matter of memorized countermeasures.

Combat operates on bullet-hell principles: enemies project attack patterns that demand active dodging rather than stat-tanking. Builds specialize along three broad archetypes — melee, ranged, and magic — and are shaped during a run by choosing from a pool of more than one hundred traits on level-up. Weapons number over four hundred and sit within a broader equipment catalogue exceeding five hundred items, making gear discovery a consistent source of run variance. Outside of individual runs, players accumulate progress toward a Mastery Level and unlock permanent perks through World Objective quests, adding a layer of persistent advancement that gradually opens the game’s harder content.

Tiny Rogues has had an active and transparent development arc since launch. Regular patch updates through 2024 and into 2025 — including a notable October 2024 patch titled “The Input Update” and a surprise December 2024 release — showed steady mechanical refinement. A January 2025 “Full Transparency” post and an April 2025 “What’s Next” announcement signaled that RubyDev was communicating direction openly with its community. By early 2026 the studio had shifted to a monthly developer blog format, suggesting the project had reached a cadence of sustained long-term support rather than burst patching.

Players who find Enter the Gungeon’s weapon variety satisfying but want deeper class identity and persistent character unlocks layered over the bullet-hell foundation will find Tiny Rogues pulls in that direction with considerably more RPG surface area.
