You’re just an office temp, which makes it all the more unfair that you’ve ended up trapped in a corporate underworld crawling with demons. The only way back to the mortal plane runs through endless haunted halls, and the only tools on offer are a pistol, some magic, and the heads of other interns.

Cards We’re Dealt is a first-person horror deckbuilding roguelike from developer Tiny Shiny Things, steeped in dark office humor. Collecting magical cards with supernatural abilities, fighting through demons and the souls of former office creeps, and choosing carefully what to keep in your hand, you’ll uncover the mystery of how you ended up here and fight for your soul, solo or with friends.

What Makes It Different?

  • Collect magical cards that grant movement perks, combat abilities, weapons, and setbacks
  • Wander an endless corporate underworld of haunted halls, office floors, and parking garages
  • Fight demons and former office creeps with pistols, magic, and severed intern heads
  • Uncover the mystery of how you got here across a 6 chapter story mode
  • Survive Escape mode, an endless challenge built around climbing out of the underworld
  • Team up with friends in online co-op to collect keycards and ascend the elevator
  • Enjoy a dark, funny take on horror, blending demon-slaying with workplace satire

A Hand You Have to Manage

The core hook of Cards We’re Dealt is that every card is a tradeoff. Some grant new abilities, weapons, or movement perks, while others come with setbacks, and there are plenty of cards hidden throughout the devil’s deck to find across the backrooms of this never-ending corporate nightmare. Since there’s only so much room in your hand, deciding what to hold onto and what to give up shapes how a run plays out, and a card that saves you in one situation can easily become a liability in another. That constant bargaining gives the first-person action a deckbuilding backbone that makes each decision feel like it counts.

Two Ways Out of the Underworld

The game offers two distinct ways to play. The 6 chapter story mode, available in singleplayer only, follows the mystery of how an office temp ended up here in the first place, while the endless Escape mode strips things back to a survival challenge across floors like the office levels and parking garage. Escape mode also supports online co-op, with friends combining their powers to collect keycards and ride the elevator to freedom, which turns the corporate horror into something a little more chaotic and social. Whether you’re hunting down answers alone or surviving together, the dark humor and deckbuilding keep every run a little different.

How Long Does a Run Take?

An average run lasts roughly 48 minutes. The core loop involves playing as an office temp exploring a demon-infested corporate underworld, collecting magical cards that grant movement perks, combat abilities, and weapons. Story mode features 6 chapters to complete, while Escape mode offers an endless structure where you try to survive floors like the office levels and parking garage. Pacing can vary depending on whether you’re rushing objectives, doing co-op runs, or getting stuck on boss encounters and creep attacks.

Controller Support

Cards We’re Dealt features Full Controller Support for Xbox Controllers and PlayStation Controllers.

Good If You Like…

If you enjoyed Golden Light, Inscryption, or Monstrum, Cards We’re Dealt’s mix of first-person horror and roguelike deckbuilding should be well worth a look. A free demo is also available on Steam if you want to try it before committing.
