Ragnar Hits 1.0, and All Hell Is Breaking Loose in the Nine Realms

Ragnar has spent the best part of a year preparing us for the end of the world. Now it’s officially ready.

Fimbulwinter Games’ Norse mythology-inspired action roguelike has left Early Access and launched into 1.0, following its original Steam release back in November 2025.

Developed by a two-person team, Ragnar sends you through the branches of Yggdrasil and across the Nine Realms, where Loki has been causing exactly the sort of mayhem you’d expect. Stopping him is going to involve plenty of dying along the way.

Nine Realms, Plenty of Ways to Die

Your journey takes place across the Nine Realms connected by Yggdrasil, with each bringing its own environments, enemies, and problems to deal with.

One minute you could be fighting giants, the next you’re trying to survive an icy labyrinth or making your way through an enchanted forest. The paths you take can change between attempts too, with mysterious dungeons and shortcuts giving you choices about how you make your way forward.

Those choices also let you decide just how difficult you want things to become. Safer routes offer an easier journey, while pushing into more dangerous territory means tougher challenges and better rewards. Considering Loki is waiting somewhere at the end of all this, you might want everything you can get.

The Gods Are Here to Help

Thankfully, you’re not expected to take on Ragnarok completely alone. Thor, Freyja, Heimdall, and Eitri are among the familiar faces you’ll meet along the way, with your interactions gradually building relationships and shaping parts of the story.

More importantly when everything is trying to kill you, the gods can also make you considerably more dangerous. Weapons, abilities, and divine blessings can be combined to create different builds during a run. Tyr’s Spear of Justice can become part of your arsenal, while Freyja’s Phantom Ambush offers another way to deal with whatever happens to be standing between you and the next realm. Finding the right combination is only part of getting stronger.

Permanent upgrades mean every failed attempt can still leave you better prepared for the next one, gradually giving you a better chance of making it further through Yggdrasil. Death, apparently, is more of an inconvenience than an ending around here.

Early Access Is Over

Ragnar first arrived in Early Access on November 27, 2025, with four explorable realms, 15 weapons, several bosses, and only part of its main story in place. Fimbulwinter Games always planned to use that period to expand the journey with additional realms, bosses, weapons, skills, story content, and improved interactions with its cast of Norse characters.

Now that 1.0 has arrived, that Early Access label is gone and the full journey to Loki’s throne is ready to take on. There’s also still a free demo available if you’d rather test your chances against Ragnarok before committing to the whole thing.

Ragnarok Has Officially Begun

Ragnar is available now on Steam for Windows and macOS. If you’ve been waiting for Early Access to finish before heading into the Nine Realms, there’s no longer anything standing in your way. Well, apart from giants, monsters, deadly labyrinths, bosses, Loki, and presumably quite a lot of death.

Nobody said stopping Ragnarok was going to be easy.
