Shroom and Gloom has spent more than a year letting players get a taste of its strange combination of dungeon crawling, deckbuilding, and eating absolutely everything that tries to kill you. Now, we finally know when the full meal is being served.
Team Lazerbeam and Devolver Digital have announced that the first-person roguelike double-deckbuilder will enter Steam Early Access on September 10, bringing hundreds of cards, infinitely upgradeable attacks, and an entire underground world of edible fungal monsters along for the ride.
There are already plenty of players waiting to head deeper into The Gloom too. The free Steam demo has picked up more than 1,000 user reviews since arriving in May 2025, with 97% currently positive and an Overwhelmingly Positive overall rating.
Why Build One Deck When You Can Have Two?
As the double-deckbuilder part of that description suggests, Shroom and Gloom doesn’t expect one pile of cards to handle everything. Instead, you’ll build two completely separate decks during each run.
Your Explore deck handles what happens between fights, with cards used to search, unlock, break, feed, fix, and generally interact with the hand-drawn dungeons around you. The Combat deck takes over once something considerably less friendly gets in your way, giving you the attacks and abilities needed to deal with the fungal creatures lurking underground.
Both feed into the same journey toward the mysterious underground realm known as The Gloom. New cards and increasingly powerful combinations give you more ways to deal with whatever you stumble across, and those cards don’t necessarily stay the way you found them.
Things Can Get Ridiculously Powerful

Team Lazerbeam has built Shroom and Gloom around letting players push their decks well beyond their original limits. Cards can be modified and grown infinitely, meaning something relatively unimpressive at the beginning of a run can eventually become a devastating attack. Find something rare and already powerful, and there’s nothing stopping you from making that considerably more ridiculous too.
It’s the kind of system that should appeal to anyone who enjoys discovering a combination that feels like it probably wasn’t supposed to become quite that powerful.
The Early Access vision goes considerably further than simply chasing bigger numbers, though. Team Lazerbeam is planning hundreds of cards, deep meta progression, and scores of different enemies spread throughout a network of caves and tunnels.
If You Kill It, You Can Eat It

Blocking an attack is one way to stay alive, but turning whatever attacked you into dinner is another. Fallen fungal enemies can be skewered, seasoned, and roasted before being eaten to restore health. Alternatively, you can throw your freshly cooked mushrooms into a pot and turn them into soups capable of providing useful effects for the rest of your run.
It fits neatly into a game that already looks unlike most deckbuilders. Hand-drawn characters and animations are placed inside 3D environments, creating a dungeon that feels part storybook, part fever dream, and absolutely packed with mushrooms.
The demo already gives players 26 handcrafted tunnels to explore alongside biome bosses, multiple playstyles, and progression that carries across runs.
With the Early Access date now set, there isn’t much longer to wait before Team Lazerbeam opens up a much larger portion of its fungal underground.
