New Alpha Nomos Gameplay Trailer Offers a Closer Look at Its Turn-Based Roguelike Action

Alpha Nomos has released its first official gameplay trailer, and and it looks like it’s taking a very different approach from the wave of action-heavy roguelikes currently dominating the genre.

Instead of overwhelming players with constant movement, endless projectiles, and screen-filling explosions, Alpha Nomos appears far more interested in careful planning. The newly released footage showcases turn-based combat, squad-based tactics, and procedurally generated dungeons where every decision feels like it carries a little extra weight.

At first glance, the game looks deceptively simple. Battles unfold on compact maps, the interface stays out of the way, and the visuals embrace a clean pixel-art style. But beneath that simplicity is a combat system that seems built around positioning, timing, and understanding how different units work together.

Rather than controlling a single hero, players appear to command an entire squad as they navigate dangerous dungeons and increasingly difficult encounters. Success doesn’t seem to come from reacting faster than your enemies. It comes from making better decisions than they do.

The procedural generation adds additional complexity to that challenge. New layouts, new encounters, and new situations, mean players will constantly need to adapt their plans rather than relying on a single winning strategy.

The game’s visual style deserves some credit too. While many modern roguelikes lean heavily into either retro nostalgia or flashy effects, Alpha Nomos sits comfortably somewhere in the middle. It’s clean, readable, and focused on making the action easy to understand at a glance.

The game is already generating a buzz of excitement in the genre, having recently featured as part of Clemmy’s Best Indie Games Summer Showcase. There are still plenty of unanswered questions surrounding progression systems, release plans, and long-term features. What the trailer does reveal, however, is a game that seems confident in its identity.

For players who enjoy roguelikes that reward careful thinking as much as quick reflexes, Alpha Nomos may be one worth keeping an eye on.
