There are plenty of games I’d happily recommend picking up for free. and Moonlighter is definitely one of them. The game is currently part of a Steam Free to Keep promotion, which means you can add it to your library for absolutely nothing and keep it permanently.
There’s just one problem… You don’t have long to claim it.
At the time of publishing, it’s 9 AM CT, which means US players have just a few hours left to claim it. The promotion ends at 1 PM ET / 12 PM CT / 11 AM MT / 10 AM PT.

So, What Is Moonlighter?
Moonlighter puts you in the shoes of Will, a shopkeeper who has slightly bigger ambitions than spending his days behind a counter. By day, you’re running your store, selling the loot you’ve collected and using your profits to improve your shop, equipment and village. By night, things get considerably more dangerous.
You’ll head into dungeons filled with enemies, traps and plenty of valuable loot. The idea is to grab as much as you can, get back out alive, and then turn your hard-earned treasures into enough money to fund your next adventure.
You’re essentially switching between two completely different games. One minute you’re worrying about what price to put on a sword you’ve just found, and the next you’re dodging enemies because you’ve got a backpack full of loot you’d really rather not lose.
It’s More Addictive Than It Sounds
The dungeon-crawling itself uses roguelite elements, with procedurally generated rooms, different enemies each time, and plenty of loot to find. You’ll also unlock better equipment as you progress, allowing you to take on tougher areas and hopefully make it home with even better stuff. But it’s the shop is what makes Moonlighter stand out.
There’s something satisfying about figuring out how much your latest piece of loot is actually worth and watching customers react to your prices. Sell something too cheaply and you’ll kick yourself, but ask for too much and, well, nobody’s buying it. It’s a simple system, but it gives all that dungeon loot a reason to matter.
The game has also received a substantial amount of post-launch content, including new gear, mini-bosses, additional room layouts, companions and a New Game+ mode.
There’s a Very Good Reason It’s Free Right Now
This giveaway isn’t happening for no reason. It’s being used to build some excitement around Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, which is currently in Early Access and is scheduled to leave it with its full release on September 2, 2026.
Which makes this a pretty great time to discover the original.
