If you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to jump back into Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers, this might be it. Developer Purple Moss Collectors has just released the Doubling Down 2.0 Update, bringing a hefty stack of new content to its Blackjack-inspired roguelike deckbuilder.
Released back in August 2024, Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers quickly carved out its own niche by turning every run into a game of high-stakes Blackjack. Instead of building damage combos in the traditional deckbuilder sense, every decision revolves around pushing your luck, managing your hand, and figuring out exactly when to stand. It’s an unusual idea that somehow works remarkably well, helping the game earn a loyal following over the past couple of years.
Now, nearly two years after launch, the biggest update yet has arrived, adding enough new content to tempt both returning players and anyone who’s been waiting for the right moment to finally give it a try.
New Floors, New Challenges
The headline addition is four brand-new floors, each introducing fresh enemies, events, and even new music to keep your runs feeling different. Rather than simply extending existing content, these new areas promise new encounters and surprises as you work your way deeper into the dungeon.
It’s a sizeable expansion on its own, but that’s only part of what’s been added. The update also introduces Lucky Charms, permanent artifacts that stay with you throughout a run. Like any good roguelike upgrade system, the fun comes from discovering combinations that completely change the way you approach each hand. Some Charms will naturally complement one another better than others, making experimentation part of the appeal.
Naturally, there’s a catch. Bosses can now equip Lucky Charms of their own, meaning they have access to powerful bonuses as well. That should make late-game encounters considerably less predictable and force players to rethink strategies that may have worked before. With more than 50 Lucky Charms now available, there’s plenty of room for new builds and unexpected combinations.
Raise the Stakes

Players looking for an extra challenge have something new to sink their teeth into as well. High Stakes introduces a collection of modifiers that can dramatically change the way a run unfolds.
If you’re after a fresh challenge each day, preset Daily Runs offer a different set of conditions to overcome. Alternatively, Custom Runs let you mix and match those modifiers yourself, giving you the freedom to create a run that’s as forgiving, or as punishing, as you’d like.
It’s the sort of feature that should add plenty of replayability, especially for players who’ve already mastered the standard experience and want to experiment with different ways to play.
Alongside all of that, the update also includes brand-new cards, balance adjustments to existing ones, additional mechanics, and a long list of quality-of-life improvements designed to make every run feel a little smoother.
Worth Another Hand?
Major content updates often breathe new life into roguelikes, and Doubling Down 2.0 certainly looks substantial enough to do exactly that. Between the new floors, dozens of Lucky Charms, customizable challenge modifiers, and plenty of smaller improvements, there’s a lot here for returning players to discover.
If you’d like to see every addition in detail, including the complete list of new cards, balance changes, and quality-of-life improvements, the full patch notes are available on Steam.
Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers is available now for Windows, macOS, and Linux. To celebrate the launch of the update, the game is also currently available at 50% off, making this a particularly good time to see what all the fuss is about if you’ve yet to take a seat at the table.which modifiers are active.
