Most colony management games ask you to build a town, Rogue Carrier wants you to build an entire city on the back of a colossal ocean-faring ship while an alien planet does everything it can to stop you.
Announced this week by developer Wild Fields and publisher Hooded Horse, Rogue Carrier combines colony management with roguelite progression, placing players aboard the Behemoth, a massive mobile fortress stranded on the hostile world of Keeling-IV. Rather than settling in one location, your entire colony travels with you as you explore dangerous seas, gather resources, expand your floating city, and uncover the mysteries of a planet that quite literally fights back.
It’s certainly one of the more unusual takes on the roguelite formula we’ve seen this year.
Instead of sending workers onto the islands themselves, you’ll deploy specialised drones to scout new territory, harvest resources, and investigate points of interest before returning to the Behemoth. Meanwhile, back on board, you’ll be balancing production chains, crew management, research, and the constant challenge of deciding which upgrades deserve precious space on your ever-growing ship. Every run promises different events, branching choices, and procedurally generated encounters, meaning no two expeditions should play out quite the same way.
The announcement trailer has already generated plenty of excitement online, with players praising its combination of colony management, exploration, and roguelite progression. More than a few have described it as an instant wishlist after seeing the Behemoth in action, which is always a promising sign for a newly announced indie.
There’s no release date just yet, but if you’re a fan of city builders, strategy games, or simply enjoy seeing developers experiment with roguelite ideas in unexpected places, Rogue Carrier looks like one to keep firmly on your radar.
