Montabi arrives on August 6, and the developers have chosen a rather unusual way to celebrate the occasion. They’ve dropped a rap trailer inspired by the classic PokeRap and it’s certainly one way to get people’s attention.
The upcoming monster-taming roguelike deckbuilder combines creature collection, deckbuilding, and grid-based tactical combat, giving players the chance to build teams of monsters, construct multiple decks, and strategically position their forces during battle.
It’s an interesting mix of genres. Creature collection games tend to focus on building the perfect team, while deckbuilders thrive on adapting to whatever a run throws at you. Bringing those ideas together creates plenty of opportunities for experimentation, especially when tactical positioning is also part of the equation.
The trailer leans into the game’s playful energy while still managing to communicate what makes it different. More importantly, it’s memorable. In a week where dozens of indie games are competing for attention, that’s not a bad thing to be.
Players curious about Montabi won’t need to wait until August to see whether the concept delivers. A demo is already available on Steam, and the developers have confirmed that additional content is planned as part of an upcoming Next Fest update.
