Clockfall Might Be the Most Interesting Time-Loop Roguelite of the Year

Time-loop roguelites aren’t exactly rare these days. The genre has spent years experimenting with repeating timelines, second chances, and endless cycles of death and progression. However, Rever Games is hoping its new entry into the genre Clockfall, can stand out from the crowd by turning time itself into a resource rather than just a narrative device.

The new dark fantasy action RPG roguelite has officially launched into Steam Early Access, challenging players to treat time itself as a resource. Every run forces you to balance character progression against the ticking clock, creating a constant struggle between getting stronger and surviving long enough to make it matter.

The story begins with your village being destroyed by the forces of Destiny. Trapped in a relentless time loop by a mysterious clock, you’ll battle through dungeons, gather resources, unlock new powers, and slowly build the strength needed to break the cycle.

What helps Clockfall stand out is its combination of dungeon crawling and village defense. One minute you’re hunting for upgrades and loot, the next you’re defending your settlement against increasingly dangerous enemy attacks.

The real hook though, is the way progression works. Resources can be spent on stronger weapons, spells, and upgrades, or traded for something even more valuable, time. Every decision affects future runs, forcing players to constantly choose between immediate power and long-term survival.

It’s an interesting twist on a genre that often struggles to find new angles. Whether Clockfall becomes the next roguelite success story remains to be seen, but its focus on time management, meaningful progression choices, and village defense mechanics, gives it a stronger identity than many of its competitors.

The PC version is available to play now, with Rever Games currently planning on releasing the PS5 and Xbox version of the game in 2027.
