Shroomie can finally leave home. After a last-minute delay pushed back its Early Access debut, Shroomwood is now available, which means the little mushroom we’ve been waiting on can stop hanging around Shroomstead and start dealing with the much less friendly things living beyond it.
Sporelite Games’ top-down action roguelike launches with more than 20 weapons, over 50 items, five-plus bosses, 15 enemy variants, and an ever-changing forest built from handcrafted rooms. There’s also a 40% introductory discount running until October 11th.
Two Hands, Plenty of Options
Combat mixes ranged weapons with melee attacks, but you’re not restricted to carrying one thing at a time. Shroomie can dual-wield, letting you combine different weapons and switch up how you handle whatever the forest throws at you. More than 20 are available in the current build, and modifiers can change both their stats and the way they behave.
There are more than 50 of those modifiers already, so picking up a weapon you recognize doesn’t mean it will play exactly the same way it did last time. That should make experimenting with combinations a big part of each run, especially once the bullets start flying and the infected mushrooms decide they’ve had enough of you wandering through their forest.
The Forest Gets Rearranged While You’re Gone

Shroomwood’s rooms aren’t completely random. Sporelite Games has designed more than 20 individual areas, then uses procedural generation to connect them in different ways each time you head out. The rooms themselves stay familiar, but the route through the forest changes from run to run.
Along the way, you’ll run into slimes, zombie-infested mushrooms, magical creatures, shops, and bosses, with Shroomstone acting as the currency for buying useful gear or recovering some health before heading farther in.
Shroomstead Has Work to Do Too
When a run ends, Shroomie heads back to Shroomstead.
The little mushroom settlement handles the permanent side of progression, with NPCs to meet, weapons to improve, magical obelisks to discover, and upgrades that carry into future attempts.
The current Early Access version is deliberately starting fairly small. There’s one playable character, one level theme, and one mode right now, but Sporelite Games has much bigger plans for the finished version.
The studio says total gameplay and content should grow by more than tenfold before full release. More weapons, bosses, enemies, modifiers, areas, and power-ups are planned, alongside new playable characters with different stats and abilities, unlockable cosmetics, and a branching level system that can change how the different areas of Shroomwood connect.
The current target is to reach version 1.0 by the end of 2026, so this is very much the starting point. For now, though, Shroomie has a forest to explore, two hands to fill with weapons, and several infected relatives who probably aren’t going to be thrilled to see him.
