Darwin can now shoot his tongue at enemies, leave giant webs behind him, and summon a tiny half-Darwin, half-Crawlee to fight by his side. So yeah, Everything Is Crab just got even weirder.
Evolution 1.2 is live today, and the free update is letting the community leave its mark on the game in a pretty big way. Developer Odd Dreams Digital has added three new Evolutions created by players, along with mid-run saves, new cosmetics, accessibility options, and plenty of other additions.
If you’ve been playing Everything Is Crab, there’s a lot here to mess around with, and if you haven’t played it yet, this might be the best, yet strangest, possible time to start.
Three New Ways to Make Darwin’s Life Even Stranger
The biggest additions in Evolution 1.2 are Pedal Glands, Spinnerets, and Projectile Tongue, all three of which were designed by members of the Everything Is Crab community.
Pedal Glands lets Darwin leave a trail of slime behind him. Enemies crossing it are slowed down, while Darwin gets a speed boost when he moves through his own trail.
Spinnerets works in a similar way, except you’re leaving a giant spiderweb behind you instead. The web slows enemies down, giving you a useful way to control the battlefield while you’re trying not to get yourself killed.
Then there’s Projectile Tongue. Yes, Darwin can now fire his tongue at things. The tongue shoots forward, piercing enemies in its path and stunning the first enemy it hits. I feel like that’s enough information to make this one worth trying.
There’s something really fun about the fact that these aren’t just community-designed cosmetics or little Easter eggs. The developers have taken player ideas and turned them into actual gameplay mechanics, giving the community a pretty direct influence over how Darwin’s increasingly bizarre evolution plays out.
Things Are About to Get Very Chaotic

Each of the new Evolutions also comes with its own Specialisation, giving you even more ways to mess around with them.
Projectile Tongue gets Sticky, which lets you pull yourself toward smaller enemies or yank bosses closer to you. That could be incredibly useful. It could also be the sort of ability that makes you think, “I wonder what happens if I do this?” immediately before dragging a boss directly into your face.
Spinnerets gets Egg Sac, which lets you summon a baby Darwee to fight alongside you. The Darwee is a strange little hybrid that’s part Darwin and part Crawlee, because apparently Darwin needed a tiny army of himself.
There’s also a new Dash Evolution called Jet, which releases the same slime and web secretions used by Pedal Glands and Spinnerets when activated.
Basically, if you thought Darwin already had enough ways to make a complete mess of everything around him, Evolution 1.2 proves otherwise.
You Can Finally Take a Break
The update isn’t all about increasingly ridiculous ways to attack things, either. One of the biggest quality-of-life additions is something players have been asking for…mid-run saves.
Anyone who’s played a roguelite knows you start a run thinking you’ll play for 20 minutes, things go surprisingly well, and suddenly you’re an hour in and wondering whether you can really afford to stop. Previously, stopping could mean losing that progress.
Now you can save your run and come back to it later, which is a small addition that makes a pretty big difference when you’re not sitting down for an entire gaming session.
Controller users are getting some attention too, with cursor snapping and new shortcut actions designed to make navigating menus easier. The update also adds new starting Genetics, more Cosmetics, additional accessibility options for the in-game cursor, and a collection of bug fixes.
Not bad for a free update.
600,000 People Have Already Joined the Crab Life

Everything Is Crab has now sold more than 600,000 copies since launching on May 8, 2026. That’s a pretty impressive milestone for a game whose central idea is essentially watching a creature slowly become more and more crab-like.
Clearly, people are into it, and it doesn’t look like Odd Dreams Digital is planning to stop here. The game’s roadmap has more content planned for later this year, so Evolution 1.2 is another step along the way rather than some big final update. For now, though, there’s plenty to get stuck into.
Three new community-created Evolutions, new Specializations, a new Dash Evolution, mid-run saves and a bunch of other additions are all available today.
Everything Is Crab is available on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Stove, with Evolution 1.2 free for all players.
